The Mill is truly special because it is a beautiful holiday home and a restored working watermill … all rolled into one! It has been lovingly restored by its owners, Shaun and Jude who have records and deeds on display that date back to 1727 – incredibly it is even recorded in the Doomsday book. The Mill is the only water mill in Dorset with all of the original machinery and is now available for you to holiday in!
The Mill is arranged on three floors. A bedroom, dining and kitchen area on the ground floor were once the bin floor (where the finished flour was weighed and bagged). The living and viewing areas were once the stone floor (where the mill stones ground the corn) and the large master bedroom with ensuite and viewing area was once the sack floor (where the sacks of corn were hoisted into the grain hoppers).
Lounge with seating for six, viewing screen of the mill stones and the original machinery. There is a display case with old documents which date back to the 18th century and there is a freeview TV, DVD, CD players and iPod dock.
A fully equipped hand-made oak kitchen with all new appliances – washing machine/drier, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, and beautiful red electric AGA.
The Mill sleeps up to 6 in three double rooms. The master bedroom is a double room with fitted wardrobe, ensuite with Victorian roll top bath and heated towel rail. Vaulted ceilings with original beams and machinery viewing area. A cot is available.
The second bedroom is also a double room with built in wardrobe and freeview TV and is on the ground floor, close to the main bathroom.
The third bedroom is a twin-bedded room with built in wardrobe and balcony overlooking the machinery in the entrance lobby. A travel cot and stair gate can be provided.
A floor to ceiling tiled modern wet room with large shower area, basin and heated towel rail is located adjacent to the second bedroom. There is a roll top bath in the master bedroom.
The Mill is situated in 7-acres of land and overlooks the leat and orchard with some spectacular views across the countryside, especially from the second floor. There is an area with seating in the orchard by the mill pond set aside for barbequeing. Children must be supervised in the orchard as there are culverts, streams and a deep pond.

Why is it Special?
The owners, Shaun and Jude, have worked hard for many years to restore both The Mill and Cider Barn. They have turned dilapidated buildings into beautiful, modern accommodation whilst having retained all of the character and much of their historical importance. Nestled on the edge of the village of Askerswell and accessed via a little lane, Hembury Mill is an unspoilt, unique and very special place to stay.
For all our cottages, the price you see is the price you pay. We charge no additional booking fees.
